Tour 3: NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE and surroundings

Part A:  The Castle´s Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau from Ludwig II
In the midst of the German Alps, southeast of Munich, in a green most breath-taking natural valley, close to the magnificent and enchanting old-world town of FÜSSEN lays in the foothills of magnificent mountains the towers of NEUSCHWANSTEIN Castle. It was built by the eccentric and romantic King Ludwig II. He already conceived and selected the site while his parents were still the kings and they stayed at the HOHENSCHWANGAU castle, just across the hill on the other side.  Both castles can be visited today on a guided tour.
Exploring the castle reveals rooms full of vast murals depicting scenes from German legends. You will see the splendid Singer´s Hall as well as the resplendent Throne Room with its gigantic chandelier and intricate mosaics. The castle is the inspiration for Disney´s Sleeping Beauty Castle, which is known by everyone in the world and attracts millions of tourists every year to see the original buildings...
With good weather and as an option we will take you by bus to the MARIENBRÜCKE (Mary´s Bridge) which overlooks the castle and spans Pöllat Gorge so you can enjoy the spectacular views with waterfalls, lakes and valley´s stretching far into the horizon.
The parents castle HOHENSCHWANGAU is also worth visiting where Ludwig spent it´s childhood. From here you have a very good view to the lake SCHWANSEE (Swan Lake) where Tchaikovsky was inspired to create his famous Swan Lake Music.

Part B: Oberammergau Town and Schloss Linderhof from King Ludwig II
On the way back using a different road we will stop at the world famous town of OBERAMMERGAU, where a legendary story in the 16th century is repeatedly shown in a spectacular theater performance every ten years since then. You will see fantastic woodcarvers and the LÜFTLMALEREIEN (painted historical houses). Afterwards we drive to another Palace built by King Ludwig II called SCHLOSS LINDERHOF. It was his favorite place to stay surrounded by an overwhelming park environment which contains his famous VENUSGROTTE (Venus Cave) with his “indoor” heated personal swimming pool where he listened to a private Orchestra playing music from Richard Wagner. The cave has fairytale paintings and other amazing settings you won´t believe.
