Tour 5:    Salt Mine /Berchtesgaden area and Salzburg City (Austria)

Part A:          Salt mine and Hitler´s Eagle Nest

We will drive south-west of Munich in direction to SALZBURG /Austria and before reaching the boarder exit to a German alpine road where you will have a splendid view of the Bavarian Alps. We will reach the famous town of BERCHTESGADEN with is tradition in salt mining. We will visit the mountain OBERSALZBERG and a real salt mine. Depending on the season of the year we might be able to take a special ride with a bus and a tunel-lift to Hitler´s famous “KEHLSTEINHAUS” or “Eagle Nest”, Hitler´s former teahouse.

Part B:      City of Salzburg / Austria

Continuing onto Austria, just across the border we will reach the old traditional, second largest city of Austria, SALZBURG (castle of salt). SALZBURG is considered the cultural and spiritual jewel of AUSTRIA and one of most beautiful old cities nestled deep in the Austrian Alps. We will show you the birthplace of MOZART, his family residence, and where he played his first concert when he was just 6 years old. You will see some of the famous locations in town including the 8^th century abbey, where the real “Maria von Trapp” spent time as a novice and other places used in the famous musical movie with Julie Andrews and her “sound of Music” places.

You will have time for yourself for shopping or visiting the HOHENSALZBURG (Hohensalzburg fortress) which stands high above the old town with magnificent panoramic views of the surroundings area. Discover the catacombs of the 13^th century monks, spent time in the 8^th century Cathedral, see the oldest restaurant in Austria dated 803 AD! Or visit the birthplace of the great physicist Christian Doppler. Sample afterwards their since over 500 years brewed beer or indulge in their famous “SACHER TORTE”: the best chocolate cake of the world.
